LEH, July 17: Several delegations and individuals today met the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra, at Raj Niwas, while seeking redressal of their grievances.
A statement said that a delegation consisting of Zonal Physical Education Officers (ZPEOs) from UT Ladakh, led by Mohammad Issaq, raised the issue of pay scale and grade pay for Zonal Physical Education Officers, requesting them to be regulated to match the Zonal Education Officers of the General Education Department.
He also sought confirmation for in-charge Zonal Physical Education Officers in UT Ladakh and the granting of Drawing and Disbursing (DD) powers to them. The Lieutenant Governor assured Issaq and the delegation that their concerns would be examined.
A social worker Mohammad Mehraj Mushtaq from Drass raised several issues, including the demand for district status for Drass, the establishment of a Tourism Development Authority for Drass, and the need for a Polytechnic College, Nursing College, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, and ITI in the region.
He also highlighted the necessity of recruitment centers in or near Drass to conduct recruitment rallies for unemployed youth, the establishment of a block headquarters at Thasgam or Kharboo, and the opening of a branch of J&K Bank or any other leading national bank at Thasgam, Shimsha, or Kharboo.
The Lieutenant Governor instructed Mehraj to submit separate memorandums on each issue and advised him to meet with the concerned departmental secretaries for further action.
In addition, a delegation from the Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee in Leh, led by its President, Harbinder Singh, highlighted the difficulties faced by the Sikh community in organizing religious functions at Gurdwara Datun Sahib in Leh. He requested the allocation of land near Saboo or Skampari to the committee to ensure smooth celebrations of religious functions and occasions.
The Lieutenant Governor assured Harbinder that he would instruct the Deputy Commissioner of Leh to look into the matter and take necessary action.
