Najwa Shabir bags British High Commission essay competition

SRINAGAR, Dec 16: Najwa Shabir, an undergraduate student from Women’s College M A Road, was declared winner of the Essay Competition on multiculturalism, organized jointly by Department of Students Welfare in Kashmir University and British High Commission New Delhi.
The award offers Najwa one week sponsored tour to the UK which would include visits to historical sites, academic institutions and cultural events along with peer group interactions.
51 undergraduate students from various affiliated colleges participated in the essay competition titled “What Role Can Youth Play in Making Multiculturalism a Success in Society”, sponsored by British High Commission. After evaluation from 3 experts, 7 best write ups were finally short listed from the Essay competition and sent to Commission office in Delhi for final selection of the winner.
Purpose of the competition was to strengthen the relationship between University of Kashmir and British High Commission and give the winning student a chance to have first hand experience of society in the UK and to acquaint with different aspects of multi- cultural Britain.
“It is the big achievement for me and my institution,” said visibly jubilant Najwa Shabir while receiving the felicitation at the hands of Vice Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad in presence of other top dignitaries of KU.
Alex Bamford, Head External Political Affairs, British High Commission, conveyed the name of the winner to Vice Chancellor.
Interestingly, Najwa had advocated home as the basic unit to begin the struggle for multiculturalism.
Congratulating Najwa for this brilliant achievement, VC hoped this would inspire other students to move forward and win laurels for their institutions and the society at large.
