SRINAGAR, July 18: A tragic incident unfolded at Ramzaan Hospital here when a 25-year-old woman, identified as Arooj, lost her life due to alleged medical negligence shortly after giving birth to a baby girl. The private healthcare facility, which had previously faced accusations of medical negligence, has once again become the centre of attention.
According to family members, Arooj, a resident of Natipora, was taken to the hospital for a check-up in early hours of Monday morning. Subsequently, she underwent a Caesarean section to deliver her baby girl. However, after the procedure, at 2 in the afternoon, she started experiencing pain and difficulty breathing. The family promptly informed the doctors and staff, who reassured them that Arooj was in stable condition.
Despite their assurances, the family members noticed Arooj’s condition deteriorating rapidly while being asked to leave the room. Concerned about her worsening state, they pleaded for proper medical attention. Unfortunately, their pleas went unheard.
Arooj, who had previously given birth at LD Hospital but chose Ramzaan Hospital for her second delivery, hoping for better care and treatment, had no idea that it would result in her untimely death. Her family expressed their shock and grief, revealing that they were kept unaware of her critical condition until it was too late.
“We were not informed about her deteriorating health until she passed away. We even provided additional blood due to her excessive blood loss. If we had known about her worsening condition, we would have immediately transferred her to another hospital. However, Dr Tahir, the attending doctor, repeatedly assured us that she was fine,” the grieving family members recounted.
In response to the incident, the police have taken the cognizance of the matter, while the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Srinagar has been directed to initiate an inquiry and establish the facts surrounding the case.
“We have initiated an inquiry through the CMO, and the investigation is already underway. Within the next couple of days, we expect to receive a comprehensive report, which will guide us in determining the appropriate course of action,” stated Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, Director of Health Services, Kashmir.
Officials familiar with the developments revealed that a team constituted by the CMO visited Ramzaan Hospital this morning to recorded statements of staff members and relevant individuals. They informed that as the investigation progresses, the police have sealed the hospital records, pending the completion of the inquiry. “The final report will be shared with both the police and the Directorate of Health Services for further action.”
Demanding justice for their deceased daughter, the family members called for the immediate closure of the hospital and urged the authorities to hold the responsible doctor and staff accountable for their medical “negligence.” “Several such incidents have occurred at the hospital without any consequential action being taken by the administration.”
