GOA, July 19: Secretary Transport, UT of Ladakh, Amit Sharma today shared the vision and perspective of Union Territory of Ladakh regarding clean and green energy emissions and carbon neutrality during an all-important `Summit on Policy Support and Enablers to Accelerate India’s Electric Mobility’ organised by NITI Aayog in collaboration with G20 Secretariat.
During the summit, participants from G20 Nations and various States/UTs talked about their perspectives.
Amit Sharma, Secretary UT Ladakh, played a key role in the first panel discussion on Developing Vibrant EV Ecosystem in States wherein he talked about Electric Vehicle Policy of UT of Ladakh launched last year.
This session was preceded by the Inaugural Session wherein Amitabh Kant, G20 Sherpa for India talked about Electric Mobility in India: Opportunities & Challenges and Goa CM Pramod Sawant delivered the inaugural address setting tone for this important event.
Amit Sharma also summed-up this session wherein lot of State/UT Transport Secretaries talked about their initiatives in EV Sector.
Amit said in his address that the real goal of using Electric Vehicles in the truest spirit can be achieved only when there is no dependency on getting electricity generated out of coal burning but out of natural resources like Solar Power Generation. In this context, he elaborated that in Ladakh UT, the Transport Department has established first-of-its-kind 242 KW Solar Port for charging e-Carsat Leh wherein these EVs get fully charged through solar mode.
Amit Sharma, while summing-up the panel discussion, mentioned in his concluding remarks that EV penetration and quantum increase is possible only when prices of EVs including 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers and 4-wheelers shall come down drastically. He disclosed before august gathering that during his last stint as Secretary Mining J&K, Lithium was discovered in Reasi district of Jammu and once Lithium-dependency is reduced which comes through imports at present, it can result in major reduction on Electric Vehicles Prices in India as EVs Lithium-ion batteries only.
All the speakers were honoured by G20 Secretariat and NITI Aayog for sharing valuable inputs. They included Jari Kaupilla, Head of ITF Secretary-General Office who also participated in same panel discussion, leading these activities across 66 nations of the world.
