JAMMU, July 19: Police claimed here today that they have arrested a vehicle lifter and recovered a stolen car and a bike from his possession.
A police spokesperson said that on July 9, 2023, a complaint was lodged by one Romesh Singh son of Jeet Singh of Mand, District Udhampur, regarding theft of his Maruti Car from the area falling under the jurisdiction of Police Post Rehari.
On this, he said, a case FIR number 89/2023 under section 379 of the IPC was registered at Pacca Danga Police Station and investigation started.
Followed by this, he said, a team led by SDPO City North, Sunil Kesar, assisted by SHO Pacca Danga, Sushil Sharma, and incharge Police Post Rehari, Anil Kumar, under the overall supervision of SP City, Kulbir Handa, rounded up a suspect identified as Shahid Mehmood of Kheora, Tehsil and District Rajouri.
During investigation, the suspect admitted to his involvement in the crime and on his disclosure, the stolen Alto car was recovered, said the police spokesperson.
Police have also recovered a stolen bike (Royal Enfield) from the possession of the accused.
While the accused has been arrested, further investigation is on.
