JAMMU, July 20: President of Sainik Samaj Party (SSP) J&K, Col SS Pathania, has urged the Lt Governor of J&K and Union Government to give more districts to Jammu region, to ensure good governance, over all development and enhanced welfare of people.
Pathania said that Kashmir division having an area of 15000 square kilometres has been given 10 districts, whereas Jammu region having an area of 26000 kilometres, also has 10 districts. He said this discrimination was brought in by Kashmir centric politicians, who always believed in subjugation, oppression and exploitation of people of Jammu region as a part of their strategy.
“A small district will not only ensure better governance, effective administration, accelerated growth in education, health, maintenance of law and order, growth in industrial, agricultural and horticulture sectors, but also result in improved welfare, social justice and redressal of grievances mechanism,” he said, adding, Tehsil Akhnoor is the classical example and despite of having a huge area and thick population has been denied the status of a district, resulting in extreme inconveniences to the people.
Pathania said the UT of Ladakh is showing the way by demanding two additional districts of Nubra and Jhanskar by raising a voice in unison and they are likely to get it, in all probability. He requested that a committee be formed by the Government at the earliest to recommend the creation of additional districts in Jammu region based on the area, population, terrain and connectivity factors, on the fast track and give long denied justice to people of Jammu region.
