Notorious thief held, Rs 2.4L recovered

JAMMU, July 21: Police in Jammu’s Bahu Fort area claimed to have apprehended a notorious thief besides recovering the stolen amount of Rs 2.4 lakh from his possession.
A police spokesperson said that on July 17, 2023, a written complaint was lodged at Police Station Bahu Fort regarding theft of Rs 2, 40, 000 cash along with DVR from a shop at Sector 1A South Extension, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.
On this, the police spokesperson said, a case FIR number 207/2023 under Sections 457/380 of the IPC was registered at Police Station Bahu Fort and investigation taken up.
During the course of investigation, he said, a team of Police Station Bahu Fort led by SDPO East, Syed Zaheer Abbas Zafari, assisted by SHO Bahu Fort, Inspector Shiv Dev Singh, and PSI Adarsh Kant, rounded up a suspect, Ajay Singh of Village Kotia Madara, Tehsil Karnail, District Gona, Uttar Pradesh at present Sector 1A South Extension, Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.
The suspect confessed to his involvement in the crime during sustained questioning by the police and on his disclosure, the stolen cash and the DVR hid in a hutment, was recovered, said the police spokesperson, adding that further investigations are on.
He said the overall operation was led by SP South Shaheen Wahid.
