Food traders fined for selling substandard items

POONCH, July 23: In a significant move towards ensuring food safety and standards, Additional District Magistrate (Adjudicating Officer), Tahir Mustafa Malik, took stringent action against Food Business Operators (FBOs) found guilty of selling misbranded and substandard food items and imposed heavy fine on them.
The court proceedings, related to the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, are now held every Wednesday. During the recent proceeding held last week, the Adjudicating Officer imposed a substantial fine of Rs 66,500 on food business operators, including manufacturers, wholesalers, dealers and retailers, whose food items were found to be misbranded or substandard.
During these proceedings, the total fine of Rs 1,40,000 was imposed on the violators.
The court proceedings serve as a stern warning to all FBOs in the district to strictly adhere to the legal regulations under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
With these substantial fines and strict warnings, it is anticipated that the food business community in the region will prioritize adherence to the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, contributing to a safer and healthier food environment for all residents.
