JAMMU, July 23: Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA), Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu today held a peaceful protest demonstration to express their strong resentment over increase in number of Non-Medical Postgraduates as faculty members in medical colleges.
A large number of Undergraduates and Postgraduates assembled this afternoon in front of the OPD gate in the premises of GMC Jammu to register their protest. Carrying placards in their hands, they raised slogans seeking justice for them.
The protesting RDA members said that they are with All India Pre & Para Clinical Medicos Association (AIPPCMA) and other associations on the issue of appointment of only Medical Post Graduates as faculty in various medical colleges.
“RDA GMC Jammu strongly opposes the increase in number of Non-Medical Postgraduates as faculty members in pre and para clinical medical branches (which is proposed as 30% posts as reserved for non-medical candidates),” said Dr Shubam Surmal, president of the Association.
Dr Surmal said that Non-Medical candidates will be having no clinical exposure and will definitely lag in clinical co-relation which is ultimately going to affect patient care and even the medical residents in these branches will be uncomfortable to pursue their residency under these non-medical faculty members.
Another protesting doctor said that with the passage of time, these Non-Medical candidates will be promoted as Head of Departments and even Head of Institute as well which is unacceptable to every medical undergraduate, postgraduate and faculty as it will breach the dignity of medical fraternity.
The protesting doctors appealed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and NMC to adjust recruitment of these Non-Medical faculty members within the earlier notified limit.
