JAMMU, July 24: President of India has appointed Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, Judge Bombay High Court, as Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.
A notification in this regard has been issued by Ministry of Law and Justice stating that the appointment has been made by the President in exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India.
Even Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghal has tweeted in this regard mentioning that Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay of the Allahabad High Court has also been appointed as Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.
Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur is the younger brother of former Chief Justice of India T S Thakur.
While recommending his name, the collegium of the Supreme Court had noted that Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur is fit and suitable in all respects for being appointed as Chief Justice of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh.
