DIG discusses Muharram arrangements with Shia leaders

POONCH, July 25: DIG Rajouri Poonch Range, Dr Mohd Haseeb Mughal, today conducted a joint virtual meeting with police officials and prominent Shia leaders of Poonch District to ensure proper security arrangements for Muharram.
The meeting was attended physically by prominent religious leaders from the Shia community, including Alhaj Intizar Hussain Sofi, Chairman AJP (Anjuman-e-Jafria Poonch), Sayed Zakir Haider, Ex-President AJP, Najam-ul-Hassan, General Secretary, Shia Federation Poonch, Shamim-ul-Hassan, President Tanzeem-ul-Momineen Mandi, and other respected figures.
A statement said that SSP Poonch, Vinay Kumar, provided an overview of the security arrangements already in place for the ongoing Muharram congregations in various parts of District Poonch.
The heads of various Shia organizations presented the schedules of their programs for the coming days, especially the 8th, 9th, and 10th day of Muharram falling on 27th, 28th, and 29th July 2023.
The discussions revolved around the timings, routes, expected gatherings, and security requirements at various locations across Poonch District. All religious leaders expressed their satisfaction with the support provided by Poonch Police and expressed hope for peaceful and harmonious events.
Addressing the participants, DIG Mohd Haseeb Mughal assured that their concerns and suggestions would be taken seriously, and all necessary security arrangements, including deployments, would be made as per the provided schedule.
He emphasized close coordination between community leaders, volunteers, and local police to ensure a peaceful Muharram with all sanctity. To enhance safety during night movements, he advised the use of torches, lights, and Mashaals, while also requesting adherence to specified main routes.
Dr Mughal stressed conducting coordination meetings with other community leaders and stakeholders to ensure all necessary facilities are provided to mourners during Muharram. He further urged the police officers of Poonch to collaborate with other security forces and agencies for collective efforts in maintaining peace and harmony throughout the RP Range during Muharram.
SSP Poonch expressed gratitude to the chair and all participating religious leaders for their valuable insights.
