Suspects involved in Gandhi Nagar firing incident held

JAMMU, July 25: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two individuals who were allegedly involved in a recent firing incident in Gandhi Nagar, which resulted in injuries to two persons.
A police spokesperson said that the police received information about a firing incident near Aquaf Market Gandhinagar, close to PNB Bank, where two individuals inside an Innova car (JK21G/7888) accidentally shot themselves and each other while mishandling a pistol. The injured were immediately taken to GMC for medical treatment.
He said teams from Police Station Gandhi Nagar, under the supervision of SP South Shaheen Wahid and assisted by SDPO South Sachit Sharma and SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Pankaj Sharma, promptly reached the location and secured the vehicle.
He further said that the investigation revealed that the vehicle belonged to Sachin Patiyal of Rajinderpura Baguna, Tehsil Vijaypur, District Samba.
He said Sachin had entrusted the vehicle to his driver, Deepak Masih a resident of Valmiki Colony Gandhi Nagar Jammu, who was accompanied by three other individuals, namely Akshay (also known as Bobby), Manish, and Vishal.
The Innova car was found to contain an unlicensed pistol, which Akshay handled carelessly, resulting in injuries to himself and Manish.
Accordingly a case under FIR number 185/2023 under sections 3/25 Arms Act, 337 IPC, was registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar, leading to the arrests of Sachin Patiyal and Deepak Masih, said the police spokesperson.
The unlicensed weapon and the vehicle have been seized as part of the investigation and further investigation is on, he added.
