JAMMU, July 26: The 24th ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ was celebrated today with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor by various organizations, educational institutions and civil society across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.

Dean Student Welfare, Cluster University of Jammu in collaboration with the NCC Units of Constituent Colleges celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas at Govt SPMR College of Commerce.
The programme was conducted in two sessions. The first session comprised of plantation drive and a rally, which was flagged off by Dr Jatinder Khajuria, Registrar, CLUJ in presence of Dr Ranvijay Singh, DSW, Dr Surinder Kumar, Principal SPMR College, Prof Rajesh Gupta, Principal GGM Science College, Prof Barbara Kaul, Dr Monika Malhotra, Dr Parveen Singh, Prof Deepshikha Sharma, Prof Monika Mahajan, Dr Deepak Pathania and Raman Kumar Sharma.
While addressing the rally, Prof Bechan Lal, Vice Chancellor motivated the NCC Cadets with his words of encouragement and inspired them to continue their pursuit of excellence. In the second session Brig. Gurmeet Singh Shan, Director Sainik Welfare Board acted as a chief guest. The Programme commenced with paying floral tribute to Martyr Ajay Singh Jasrotia, an Alumni of Commerce College who attained martyrdom during the Kargil war.
The whole event was coordinated by ANO Prof. (Lt) Savita Jamwal, Capt. Dr. Anjana Sharma (NCC Coordinator, CLUJ), SLT Neelima Gupta, Lt. Suman Bala, Mohd. Ashraf and CTO Dr. Shiv Kumar and NSS PO of Commerce College Prof Deepshikha Sharma.
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University paid homage to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil war in 1999. Vice-Chancellor Prof Akbar Masood led the teachers, the non-teaching staff and the students to pay homage to the Kargil martyrs. On the occasion, a plantation drive was organized by the University.
On the eve of Kargil Vijay Diwas, BJP District Jammu vice president Manav Mahajan organized Free Ayush Health Check up cum Awareness Camp at ward number 11, Kanak Mandi where District president BJP Parmodh Kapahi along with Chamber of Commerce president Arun Gupta and others were present. The Camp was organized by Department of Ayush J&K. In this Medical Camp, 962 patients were examined and free medicines distributed to them.
BJP District Jammu South also organized a program under the presidentship of District president Rekha Mahajan on the 24th Anniversary of the “Kargil Vijay Diwas”. Senior BJP leaders Kavinder Gupta, Baldev Singh Billawaria, Ayodhya Gupta, Vikram Randhawa and others paid tribute to the fallen soldiers during the 1999 Kargil War here at party office Trikuta Nagar, Jammu. A motivational lecture cum presentation was also conducted by senior BJP leaders in memory of war heroes.
Remembering the brave martyrs of the 1999 Kargil War on the occasion of the 24th Operation Vijay Diwas, Chairman/CEC Advocate Tashi Gyalson honoured the fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the War Memorial near Singay Namgyal Chowk. The event organized by the Tourism Department Leh in association with the Ex-Servicemen League had the presence of Advisor Ladakh Dr Pawan Kotwal, Commissioner Secretary Tourism Kacho Mehboob Ali Khan, GoC Sub Area Maj General SS Bakshi, DIG Ladakh Police Sheikh Junaid, DC Leh Santosh Sukhadeve and others.
J&K BJP Co-Convener Sanskriti Art Culture Cell Sahil Mahajan organized a free food stall for the public at Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu. Earlier, two minutes of silence was observed to remember the sacrifices of Kargil War Martyrs.
The NSS unit of Government College of Education (GCoE) Jammu also commemorated Kargil Vijay Diwas in college campus. Principal Prof Aekta Gupta exhorted the students to always remember the sacrifice made by the soldiers of the Indian Army.
On the occasion, documentaries based on Kargil War heroes were screened for the students. Faculty members also highlighted the contribution of Capt Vikram Batra, Capt Manoj Pandey, Grenadier Yogendra Singh, Capt Jintu Gogoi, Lieutenant Balwan Singh and Naik Brij Mohan Singh.
PG DAV College (Evening), Nehru Nagar, New Delhi and Jammu Kashmir Peoples’ Forum, Delhi celebrated Kargil Vijay Divas to pay homage to the soldiers who lost their lives during the War. Member Parliament Col Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was the chief guest while Col K K Sharma, SC, SM Bar attended the function as guest. Professor Ravinder Gupta, Principal of the College delivered a patriotic speech. Students of the College presented a cultural program full of patriotism.
Dogra Group of Colleges viz. Dogra College of Education, Dogra Law College and Dogra Degree College, Bari Brahmana, in collaboration with Dogra Sadar Sabha, Jammu celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas in the auditorium at Dogra Educational Complex. The progarmme began with paying floral tribute by the dignitaries to Kargil War Heroes. A series of heartwarming speeches, patriotic songs and poetry recitation was presented by the students. Gulchain Singh Charak, Chairman, Dogra Educational Trust in his address, paid homage to the martyrs of Kargil War.
To commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas, NSS Unit of Dogra Degree College launched a massive plantation drive within the college campus with the theme “Green India” under the banner “Meri Matti Mera Desh”. The drive was carried out in collaboration with the NCC 4 J&K Battalion and NSS Unit-I of the College. During the drive, more than 50 saplings were planted by the students, teaching staff, non-teaching staff of the college “and officers/officials of the Social Forest department.
Various events were conducted by the Indian Army at Dharmund (Batote) to pay homage to the gallant warriors of Kargil War. The two-day event was filled with a series of activities starting with a drawing competition, essay writing, Rakhi making, ‘Run for Martyrs’ followed by prize distribution to the winners of the events. The event witnessed the participation of a senior Army officer and civil dignitaries.
Former Legislator and senior BJP leader Vikram Randhawa along with large number of people paid tributes to the Kargil War heroes at Dharap Panchayat in Jammu South RS Pura Assembly Segment. Randhawa said that the country will never forget the supreme sacrifice of the soldiers in the 1999 Kargil war.
To remember the brave heroes of Kargil War, the officers, JCOs and Jawans of MLI Regiment of Indian Army organized a two-day medical checkup camp at the New Convent Institute Maitra (Ramban). The camp witnessed an active participation from almost 360 students along with their parents and teachers. They were provided comprehensive health and dental inspection.
Government College for Women, Parade Ground, Jammu celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas under Meri Mati Mera Desh Programme. About 50 NSS volunteers and 50 NCC cadets participated in the programme. Families of some martyrs were invited in the event for felicitation. A mega plantation drive was carried out by the volunteers wherein about 75 saplings of indigenous varieties were planted in the College campus and adopted village.
NCC Cadets of 4 J&K Battalion of GDC Kathua celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas by paying floral tribute to the martyrs of Kargil at Shaheedi Chowk, Kathua. They also cleaned the statue of Shaheed Captain Sunil Chowdhary and offered Guard of Honour and wreath lying to the Martyr. Cadets bowed their heads and keep two minutes’ silence to mark respect to all the brave soldiers who laid down their lives to protect the country.
The Freedom Fighters’ Memorial Association (FFMA) organized a meeting at Dogra Shaurya Sthal, Ampbhalla under the chairmanship of Rajiv Mahajan. Floral tributes were paid to the martyrs of Kargil War and candles were lit in their honour. A two minutes silence was also observed. Speaking on the occasion, Chairman of FFMA, Rajiv Mahajan saluted the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
GDC Paloura organized a programme to celebrate Kargil Diwas. Students and staff members of the College, besides Panchyat members of the area participated in the event. NSS and NCC units of the College organized plantation drive in which 100 rose plants were planted. Based on the name of Kargil Shahid, the name of the rose garden was also named as Bua Diita Garden and the family members of Martyr Bua Ditta were honoured by College.
The NSS Unit of PPND Government Degree College (GDC), Samba organized a patriotic event to commemorate Kargil Diwas. The families of following martyrs of Kargil War, namely Havildar Kulbir Singh, Havildar Girdhari Singh, Havildar Manohar Lal and Sepoy Lakhvinder Singh were invited and presented with mementos as a token of gratitude for the sacrifices made by their loved ones for the nation.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit “Cheshta” of GDC Hiranagar organized a solemn and patriotic event to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas. The event saw enthusiastic participation from the college students, NSS volunteers and faculty members. NSS Volunteers Shubham Sharma and Pooja Sharma through speeches and poems paid heartwarming tribute to the martyrs of Kargil War acknowledging their supreme sacrifices for the nation.
A function was organized by Directorate of Sainik Welfare J&K to pay tribute to the Kargil War Heroes. Brig Gurmeet Singh Shan, Director Sainik Welfare Department, J&K informed that about 80 soldiers from J&K laid down their life at Kargil during Operation Vijay. Other senior veterans present in the function were Col JS Randhawa ZSWO RS Pura, Col Jitendra Singh ZSWO Akhnoor and Col Bhupinder Singh Sambyal ZSWO Jammu.
Kargil Vijay Diwas was celebrated by NSS and NCC Units of GDCW Kathua. The function was started with the welcome address by Dr Arun Dev Singh, NSS Programme Officer followed by lamp lightning ceremony by Dr Savi Behl, Principal of the College who honoured both retired army personal who fought in war and received injuries and bullets.
To celebrate Kargil War victory, citizens of Jammu paid homage to the undying spirit of the Indian soldiers by conducting a mini-Marathon between Maj Ajay Singh Jasrotia Memorial to Balidan Stambh, Jammu. The event was organized by the War Wounded Foundation in collaboration with NCCHWO. The Run was flagged off by Veer Mata Veena Jasrotia from Sainik Colony. After the conclusion of the Run at Balidan Stambh, wreath was laid by Veer Naris.
NSS Unit of GDC RS Pura celebrated Kargil Diwas by organizing a Plantation Drive in the adopted village Sundarpur in RS Pura. About 75 indigenous plants like Bel, Jamun, Satpatra, Amla etc. were planted in the premises of Government Primary School, Gurudwara, Temple and Cremation Ground, Sunderpur. A total of 40 NSS Volunteers participated in the drive.
To mark the Day, Principal of GDC Mahanpur Dr Sangeeta Sudan along with staff and students paid floral tributes to all the brave warriors for their courage and supreme sacrifice in Kargil War. Dr Sangeeta Sudan in her address explained that the nation will forever be grateful to the sacrifices made by the Armed Forces. Other faculty members including Dr Balbinder Singh, Prof Arvind Kumar, Saurabh Dutta, Prof Meena Devi, Dr Sapna Devi and Dr Parshotam Dass were also present on the occasion.
NSS Unit of GDC Sidhra in collaboration with Forest Department and Panchayat Bain Bajalta undertook a series of activities to celebrate Kargil Vijay Diwas. The activities included Plantation Drive and honouring Defence Personnel/Freedom Fighters. Anoop Kumar Soni (Divisional Forest Officer, Jammu) was chief guest on the occasion.
The NCC cadets of GDC Khour visited the Samarak of Kargil Shaheed Anil Singh Manhas to pay tribute and honour the bravery and sacrifice of the soldier. The programme began with the floral tribute to the shaheed by (Lt) Arun Sharma (ANO), NCC Cadets of GDC Khour, Hav Surjeet Singh along with prominent civilian and retired Army personnel.
To commemorate the Day, GDC Basohli and the Forest Division Basohli carried out a plantation drive in the newly created “Kargil Shaheed Vatika”. Dr Nidhi Kotwal, Principal, GDC Basohli, in her address, discussed the importance of sacrifices made by the soldiers in safeguarding the country. Ajeet Singh, ADC Basohli was the chief guest on the occasion.
SG GDC Doongi paid heartfelt homage to the brave soldiers of India on Kargil Vijay Diwas. The College organized various activities to remember and respect the valor displayed by the armed forces. One of the highlights of the event was the Speech Making Competition, where students passionately expressed their thoughts on the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas and the courage of our soldiers.
A 3-day special NSS Camp to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas concluded at GDC Purmandal. The Camp organized by NSS Unit and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan in collaboration with Bharat Vikas Parishad J&K Prant, was inaugurated by the College Principal Prof (Dr) Raj Shree Dhar. On first day of the Camp, a documentary screening session on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and cleanliness drive was conducted, followed by a medical camp on 2nd day and plantation drive on 3rd day.
With an aim to evoke and instill the spirit of nationalism and patriotism, Tain Rashtriya Rifles Battalion conducted a host of events including a wreath laying ceremony at the Shaheedgarh War Memorial. One of the primary events on Kargil Vijay Diwas was the wreath-laying ceremony at the Shaheedgarh War memorial where Indian army officials, Government representatives and families of martyrs paid their respects to the fallen soldiers, laying wreaths.
Department of Information and Public Relations organized a symposium for students of class IX to XII at Delhi Public School, Udhampur. A big number of students participated in the symposium and presented valuable information on Har Ghar Tiranga, Unsung Heroes, Flag Code and Freedom Fighters. The winners were presented with trophies by DIPR.
Gaurav Gupta, Secretary Jammu Club and former Secretary General of CCI Jammu, paid heartfelt tributes to the martyrs of the Kargil war on Kargil Vijay Diwas at Balidan Stambh in Jammu. Speaking on the occasion, Gaurav Gupta said, “Let us pay homage to our fallen heroes and remember the sacrifice they made for our nation.” He said their bravery and resilience continue to inspire us and it is our duty to uphold the values they stood for – courage, dedication and love for the country.
To commemorate the Day, a function was organized at Jammu Regional office of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID). Executive Director Northern Region-II, Rajesh Kumar along with senior officers and employees participated in this program. Homage was paid to Indian soldiers’ staunch bravery and sacrifices during the war. Six Kargil War Heroes who are currently giving their services in the security contract of POWERGRID were felicitated on the occasion.
Army Public School (APS) Dhar Road celebrated ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas Rajat Jayanti Mahotsav’ under the guidance of Controlling Formation 611 (I) AD Bde and remembered India’s war victory and paid tribute to Kargil Martyrs who are the symbol of courage and sacrifice for safeguarding the borders of the country. The celebrations began almost a week prior on 18 July. The event culminated with the Prize Distribution Ceremony conducted today.
On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, an ambulance was handed over to the families of ex-servicemen and martyred soldiers of North Eastern states of India by Atharva Foundation. Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais handed over the keys of the ambulance to the representatives of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh at a special function organized by Sunil Rane, MLA from Borivali West and president of Atharva Foundation at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai.
On Kargil Vijay Diwas, National General Secretary of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra Welfare Society Raju Chandel and National Executive president Rajkumar Goyal warned Pakistan to vacate PoK, saying India will now take PoK, no matter what martyrdom has to be done for it.
MV International School paid a heartfelt tribute to the gallant soldiers who exhibited unparalleled bravery during the Kargil War in 1999. The school had the honour of hosting two distinguished heroes of the war – Honorary Captain Baljeet Singh from 8 Sikh Regiment and the resilient NK Avtar Singh who shared first-hand accounts of the intense battles fought during the Kargil War.
NCC Cadets of Dewan Devi Higher Secondary School participated in Run for Unity organized on Kargil Vijay Diwas. The School Principal, teachers, NCC cadets along with ANO paid tribute to Kargil heroes.
In remembrance of supreme sacrifices of soldiers during the Kargil War, Shurveer Jammu Sangathan (SJS) organized ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ celebrations at Jammu. Activists of SJS paid tributes to the brave heart soldiers who laid down their lives during the ‘Operation Vijay’.
Rich tributes were paid to the martyrs of the Kargil War of 1999 by the Rich Harvest Staff and Scholars. In a special assembly, a model of the famous Tiger Hill was displayed to capture the patriotic feeling. A medley of patriotic songs was sung which filled the air with an emotion of pride, joy and admiration.
Kargil heroes were paid tributes at Dogra Higher Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, Jammu. Managing Director of the School Gambhir Dev Singh Charak highlighted the spirit of valour and sacrifice made by the soldiers in Kargil War.
Wave Mall organized an event on Kargil Vijay Diwas. The event had many patriotic performances from singers, dancers and poets. The chief guest of the event was Sanyam Pandoh. General Manager of the Wave Mall, Madan Mohan Rana distributed certificates at the end of the performance. Movie tickets were also distributed among ex-servicemen and Kargil war veterans at Wave Mall.
In connection with Kargil Vijay Diwas, a function was organized by Forum for Awareness of National Security (FANS) at Jammu Club auditorium. National Executive Member RSS and Margdarshak FANS, Indresh Kumar was the chief guest of the function which was presided by Dr Gautam Mengi, Prant Sanghchalak RSS Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh. Lt Gen R P Singh (Retired) and Kavinder Gupta (Ex Deputy CM) were the guests of honour. A fiery presentation on Kargil War was given by Brigadier Dr Vijay Sagar Dheman (retired) vice president FANS. Fourteen families of the martyrs present at the function were honoured by the civil society of Jammu.
