UDHAMPUR, July 26: Udhampur Police today arrested a drug peddler and recovered 165 kg of poppy straw, which was being smuggled in a vehicle and intercepted at Jakhani National Highway Udhampur.
The vehicle, bearing registration number PB35Q-9459, which coming from Kashmir Valley towards Udhampur, was intercepted by a Police party, led by SHO Udhampur, Inspector Raghubir Singh under the supervision of Addl SP Udhampur Anwaar Ul Haq and DySP Hqrs. S Gurmeet Singh at Jakhani.
During checking, Police team recovered eight bags containing 165 kgs of poppy straw following which driver of the vehicle was arrested on the spot.
The arrested driver was identified as Mohd Shafi, son of Mohd Fathya of Doraha, Ludhiana (Punjab). In this connection, case FIR number 380/2022 under sections 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur and further investigation of the case has been taken up.
