PhD scholar among 3 arrested

Srinagar July 26: Police today said that they have busted a militant recruitment module and arrested three persons including a PhD scholar and recovered arms and ammunition.
A police spokesman said that Kulgam Police generated an input and was in search of a one Dr. Sabeel who was motivating, funding and providing logistic support to the youth of Kulgam and adjoining areas to make them join militancy.
He said that the special police teams were constituted to search for this suspect and then to take legal action. “After systemic efforts of Kulgam police zeroed in on one vehicle bearing No JK18B-4852. The credentials of the vehicle was sought and it came to fore that this vehicle was being used by one Dr. Rubani Bashir son of late Bashir Ahmed Dar of Ashmuji Kulgam. Accordingly police naka was established at Ashmuji and Dr Rubani was arrested,” he said.

The spokesman said that during the questioning he disclosed his code name as Dr Sabeel. Dr. Rubani Bashir alias Dr Sabeel is a PHD scholar from Central University of Kashmir and has also applied for Job as assistant professor there.
He said that during questioning Dr Rubani disclosed that he has been associated with Jamat-e-Islami from his student days and he has been its member in student wing (IJT) Islamic Jamatul Tulbha for 14 years and later on has been a full-fledged member of JEI.
The spokesman said that the basic modus operandi of Dr Sabeel was to work for HM and JeM behind the curtain. “He used to identify the youngsters, motivated them , funded them and then made them ready to join militancy,” he said.
The spokesman said that during preliminary investigation it came to fore that Dr Rubani motivated two youngsters and had made them to join militancy. “On his disclosure two OGWs of HM and JeM were arrested,” he said.
They have been identified labourers Fazil Ahmed Parrey, 17, son of Sheraz Ahmed Parrey of Ashmuji Bhan and Tariq Ahmed Naikoo alias Chawla, 22, son of Abdul Ahmed Naikoo of Check Wattoo Aharabal.
He said that arms and ammunition were recovered from the possession. “One pistol with magazine and 9 rounds of ammunition were recovered from Dr Rubani, one AK-Magazine and 19 rounds of AK ammunition was recovered from Parrey and one Chinese grenade and 10 AK rounds were recovered from Naikoo,” he said.
The spokesman further said that one Alto car bearing No JK18B 4852 which was being used for ferrying militants has been seized.
A case (FIR No 143/2023 u/s 13,18,18-B,39/UA(P) Act, dated 25/ 07/2023) was registered in Police Station Kulgam and further investigation is going on.
