Bovine smuggling bid foiled

AKHNOOR, July 26: With the arrest of two smugglers, police in Jammu’s Akhnoor area claimed today that they have foiled a bovine smuggling bid and rescued the animals crammed inside a vehicle in a cruel manner.
A police spokesperson said that a party of Police Station Akhnoor led by SHO Akhnoor Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq under the supervision of SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Lal Sharma intercepted one Mahindra Bolero Pickup, which was on its way towards Chowki Chowra from Jammu, at Khugga Naka.
When the naka party signalled the vehicle to stop, its driver tried to escape but he was apprehended by the naka party, he said.
During questioning, the police spokesperson said that the drive of the vehicle identified himself as Mian Lal of Androla Chingas Rajouri and his co-passenger as Mohammad Azam of Androth Rajoui.
“On search, bovine animals crammed in a cruel manner inside the vehicle were rescued,” he said.
Police have arrested the accused and seized the vehicle used in the commission of crime. A case FIR number 214/2023 under section 188 IPC and 11 PCA Act has been registered against the accused and further investigation taken up.
