Police freeze bank savings, attach property of 2 drug peddlers

SRINAGAR, July 26: The police today froze the bank savings and seized a vehicle belonging to a notorious drug peddler in Bandipora, while in Baramulla, the property of another drug peddler was also attached.
According to the police, the bank savings amounting to Rs. 3,97,604 were frozen, and an Autoload carrier bearing registration No. JK15B-4455 was seized. “The said auto, valued at about Rs. 3,18,000, belonged to a notorious drug peddler named Irshad Ahmad Khan, son of Abdul Samad Khan, a resident of Asham Hajin,” police said.
The actions were taken under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. “Upon investigation, it was revealed that all these assets were illegally acquired through the sale of narcotic drugs.”
In Baramulla, the police attached properties of drug smugglers worth Rs. 41.85 lakhs.
“Led by SDPO Uri Shokat Ali, the police attached a newly constructed house valued at approximately Rs 11.46 lakhs and a vehicle (Tata Sumo) bearing registration number JK05D-3680, valued at approximately Rs 5.00 lakhs, belonging to the drug smuggler Mohammad Naseer Bhatti, son of Nasar Din Bhatti, a resident of Madiyan Kamalkote,” polices said.
The action, police said, was taken after obtaining legal sanction from competent authorities and was linked to case FIR No. 12/2023 under relevant sections of the law of Police Station Uri.
“The investigation proved that the said movable and immovable property was raised/used for illicit trafficking by the drug smuggler.”
Furthermore, during a raid conducted at Kamalkote Uri, the police recovered 1.17 Kgs of contraband Brown Sugar and a cash amount of Rs 25.39 lakhs from the drug smugglers, namely Mohammad Naseer Bhatti, Mohammad Rayaiz Khanday, resident of Mohammad Shareef, Mohamad Pazeer Khanday, son of Abdul Majid, and Mohammad Fayaz Khanday, son of Mohammad Sharief, all residents of Madiyan Kamalkote.
