HC Collegium discusses names to fill vacancies in J&K High Court

Jammu, July 26: High Court collegium met today under Chief Justice N. Kotiswar Singh and discussed various names for filling vacancies in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Relaible sources told Excelsior, “the collegium comprising Chief Justice N Kotiswar Singh, Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice Atul Sreedharan discussed in detail the performance of the probable advocates and also the case of senior most Judicial Officer. Justice Sreedharan specially flew to Jammu to attend the crucial meeting and later went back to Srinagar today evening”.
Presently, one vacancy has been created after the retirement of Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey and there was also one Judicial Officer vacancy in anticipation of forthcoming retirement of Justice Mohan Lal Manhas in November this year.
“Among the cases discussed were that of senior most Judicial Officer Mohammad Yousuf Wani, who is presently on deputation as member, J&K Special Tribunal, Srinagar. Among the advocates, whose names were discussed included that of Mohsin Qadri Additional Advocate General, Srinagar Wing and Vishal Sharma, who is presently posted as Assistant Solicitor General of India “, sources asserted.
Source said that the collegium also discussed the proposal for confirmation of Justice Rahul Bharti and Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, who are presently posted as Additional Judges in the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
“The High Court collegium comprising senior most Judges had also met two days back and deliberated on the probables for the vacant posts”, sources added.
The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has a sanctioned strength of 17 Judges including 13 Permanent Judges and 4 Additional Judges.
Presently, the High Court has 12 Permanent Judges including Chief Justice N. Kotiswar Singh. Other Judges include Justice Tashi Rabstan, Justice Sanjeev Kumar Shukla, Justice Sindhu Sharma, Justice Rajnesh Oswal, Justice Vinod Chatterji Koul, Justice Sanjay Dhar, Justice Puneet Gupta, Justice Javed Iqbal Wani, Justice Mohan Lal, Justice Mohd Akram Chowdhary, Justice Rahul Bharti, Justice Moksha Khajuria Kazmi, Justice Wasim Sadiq Nargal and Justice Rajesh Sekhri.
