Tarigami seeks adequate compensation for displaced

Srinagar, Dec 19:  CPI (M) State Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has resented the imposition of restrictions on public movement around under construction Kishanganga power project in Bandipora district.
Tarigami in a statement said the move is aimed to gag the public concern vis-a-vis their genuine right to adequate compensation and rehabilitation plans.
He said the move is fraught with dangerous consequences.
“Instead of looking into the genuine demands of affected inhabitants of the district, and making NHPC to compensate for their losses, it unfortunate that the Government has resorted to browbeating and crackdown on people,” he said.
Besides calling for implementation of environmental laws in view of reports about contamination of water in the area, the CPI (M) leader said the Government must lift the curbs on public movement and address their genuine demands of compensation and jobs in lieu of their land that has been acquired for the project.
