Janipur residents protest against prepaid electricity bills system

JAMMU, July 30: A large number of residents of Janipur today staged protest against the new system of prepaid electricity bills.

The protesting inhabitants raised slogans against the Power Development Corporation Jammu while holding placards in their hands and disrupted the traffic at Janipur main stop. During this, the protesters were raising slogans ‘Get out of the houses, fight with the dishonest, hooliganism will not work, will not work’.
“The PDD is forcing people to pay electricity bills through prepaid system,” the protesting people said, adding, it has also been started from Janipur area which is an EWS Colony. They alleged that the LG Government is forcing all new rules on Jammuites while there are no such rules in Kashmir.
They said that the Government of Jammu and Kashmir is forcing people to pay prepaid bills. They demanded the removal of authorities forcing people to shift to pre-paid billing portal. They said that no party including BJP is opposing it but people decided to oppose it strongly and are continuously protesting against it on the streets against the authorities of Power Development Corporation.
The protesting people said that JPDCL’s linemen and other officials are promoting ‘Kundi’ system by extorting money from the slum dwellers while the local people are being handed over huge electricity bills. They also said that no action is being taken against those who have outstanding bills of lakhs while common people are being tormented in the name of prepaid bills. “We won’t tolerate this at any cost and would intensify the movement against it in the days to come,” they added.
