100 e-buses with facilities like ACs, CCTV cams to run on Jammu roads soon

‘80 e-cycles to be launched in city within days’

JAMMU, July 30: The people of Jammu city will soon have passenger transportation service of highest standard as a fleet of about 100 e-buses is all set to reach here in the month of August with emission free services along with all the comforts like facility of air conditioner and Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) Cameras for security and surveillance purpose.
“These buses will reduce the pollution level in the city to a large extent as they will be running on batteries,” Jammu city Mayor, Rajinder Sharma informed adding that 10 buses will arrive per week in Jammu of which some will run within the city while others will move between Jammu and Kathua, Udhampur and Katra.
He also said that e-ticketing shall be used for collecting fare from the passengers using services of these buses.
When contacted Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Commissioner, Rahul Yadav who is also Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL) said, under Smart City Project 100 new e-buses will start reaching Jammu gradually from the month of August.
“Of these, 25 buses will be of full size (12 meter in length) and 75 will be small buses (9 meters in length). The small buses will run within the city,” he said adding: “JSCL will run these buses which are brought on Gross Cost Contract (GCC) with TATA and it is not an outright purchase.”
“TATA will run these buses for 12 years for us and we will only pay them cost per km while the driver will also be from TATA and the maintenance and electricity costs too will be borne by them,” Yadav further said.
He said that only Conductor for these buses shall be from JSCL and for that contract has been allotted.
“Charging Stations for these buses will be at Bhagwati Nagar at our depot where we are charging one such bus on trial basis while we are planning charging stations at General Bus Stand Jammu, at Katra, Kathua and at Udhampur also,” the CEO maintained adding: “While the major projects of the Smart City are nearing completion, in coming days we will also launch electrical cycles wherein 80 e-cycles shall be launched for Jammu city.”
Deputy Mayor of Jammu city, Baldev Singh Billawaria appealed to the people of Jammu to use the services of e-buses which will soon run on Jammu roads with utmost care.
“We expect that the people of Jammu will display proper discipline and none will spoil seats of these buses or their walls by writing useless things,” he said.
