JAMMU, Aug 1: A meeting of the Executive Committee of Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (KPS) was held here, today under the chairmanship of it’s president, K. K. Khosa.
Among other issues confronting the community the members expressed their opinions about the impact of the proposed amendment to the State Reorganization Act 2019 for reservation of two seats for the displaced community by way of nomination by the Lieutenant Governor of the UT in the Legislative Assembly.
The members expressed their happiness about the reservations but simultaneously expressed their disappointment over the fact that the Government instead of making provisions for reservation of three or four Assembly seats and one Parliamentary seat as requested by the Kashmiri Pandit Sabha and other organizations of the community had only extended this nominal gesture. Taking into consideration that the Upper House has been abolished where people representing various ethno-religious groups were nominated, this provision for nomination to the Assembly was inadequate, the Sabha said.
It said in the absence of a comprehensive return and rehabilitation policy for the KPs with full sense of security these nominations were of cosmetic importance. The members appealed the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister, Amit Shah to address the core issue of return and rehabilitation of the KPs in the Valley with honour dignity and full sense of security by framing a robust return and rehabilitation policy which needs to be wetted by the Parliament in this present session.
It said the beleaguered community has been yearning to return to Kashmir and has been waiting for justice for the past 33 years including the last nine years during which it has had the highest hopes. The Sabha also appealed GOI to issue an Ordinance for safeguarding the temples shrines and other religious places in the Valley and come up with a legislation in the Winter Session of the Parliament.
The members requested the PM to include the ethnic minority of Kashmiri Pandits in his well proclaimed policy of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Vikas by announcing a Prime Ministers plan for return.
