JAMMU, Aug 1: Dogra Sadar Sabha J&K (DSS) president and former minister Gulchain Singh Charak today demanded to expedite restoration work on Dogra monuments and heritage in the Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a meeting of DSS at Gurah Slathia today, DSS president referred to progress till date and current status of various issues pertaining to restoration work on monuments and heritage in the region.
The participants unanimously appreciated the Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha for bifurcating the civil secretariat and adopting digital mode of working to facilitate simultaneous and efficient functioning at Srinagar and Jammu (Tawi). They welcomed the laying of foundation stone of Balidan Stambh at Pratap Park, Srinagar.
DSS, however, expressed deep concern over growing unemployment of youth in the rural as well as the urban areas of J&K UT and made a strong appeal to the government to quickly fill up the large number of vacancies that reportedly exist in various departments.
It was strongly desired that the government should quickly settle the long pending issues of daily wagers in the PHE/Jal Shakti Department, PDD etc so that their genuine demands are addressed.
Several resolutions were passed in the meeting for consideration by the Lt Governor. It said the government must take immediate action to preserve and restore the historic monuments and heritage sites in Jammu region. Special mention was made of Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex which required to be expeditiously restored to its pristine glory without shifting its archives to Kala Kendra or any other place outside the complex.
The participants reiterated that such a step would render the monument ‘soul-less and attraction-less’ for the students, tourists and lovers of heritage and history. Proposed conversion of Maharani Charaki Palace into a hotel was also decried on technical grounds being against the standard norms of heritage. Immediate strengthening of embankments and other conservation measures on the circular roadside of Mubarak Mandi hillock were stressed to prevent sliding and collapse of the priceless structure.
Prominent among those participating in meeting included Col. (Retd) Karan Singh Jamwal, Vidya Sagar Sharma, Ravi Singh Salathia, Jagdeep Singh, Chhankar Singh, Master Devender Slathia, Faqir Singh, Hony Capt Harvinder Singh and others.
