JU VC releases translation of ‘Asfar-e-Shohab’

JAMMU, Aug 2: Jammu University Vice Chancellor, Prof Umesh Rai today released the translation of the book “Asfar-e-Shohab”.
The book was originally written by Prof Shohab Inayat Malik, Principal, IMFA and former Head, Department of Urdu, JU. The book has been translated into Kashmiri by Pyare Hatash, a well-known Kashmiri writer and Sahitya Academy award winner, and has been published by Qasmi Qutub Khana, Jammu.
The book is the collection of travelogues of Prof Shohab Inayat Malik, which contains 11 travelogues, including those of Egypt, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Mauritius, besides Lucknow and Hyderbad. The book contains 224 pages.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Umesh Rai lauded the efforts of Prof Shohab for the promotion of Urdu and described him as a well-known Urdu writer in the country who has authored 20 books in Urdu, which have been highly appreciated by the Urdu world. He also congratulated Pyare Hatash for his beautiful translation of the book in Kashmiri.
The VC emphasised the need to promote regional languages of J&K and informed that the University of Jammu will do its best to promote Dogri and Kashmiri languages, which are the main regional languages of the UT of J&K.
Brij Nath Betab presented a detailed paper on the book while Prof Shohab Inayat Malik, author of the book, presented a formal vote of thanks.
