Woman found hanging, family alleges murder for dowry

JAMMU, Aug 3: A 27-year-old woman was found hanging at the residence of her in-laws here at Bajalta area of the District today, police said.
Priya Chib wife of Sushil Singh Chamyal of Bajalta, Sidhra, was found hanging around 11:30 am, police said.

She was taken to Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu, where she was declared as dead on arrival by the team of doctors, they said.
Incharge Police Post Sidhra, PSI Arun Kumar, said that inquest proceedings under CrPC 174 have been initiated and further investigation taken up.
The body of the woman has also been handed over to her legal heirs after completing the legal formalities at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased woman belonging to Kunjwani area of Jammu, who had assembled outside the Emergency of the Government Medical College, Jammu, claimed their daughter was murdered by her in-laws for the lust of dowry.
Referring to the in-laws of the deceased woman, one of the family members said, “they were constantly demanding cash and other items from our daughter. We’d already given them articles worth crores of rupees but their lust was not satiated with that.
“So, they hanged our daughter in the night and projected her death as a suicide in the day. Our daughter was brave. She couldn’t commit suicide.”
The family members of the deceased woman demanded justice for their daughter through a fair and impartial probe into the circumstances leading to her death.
