DGP reviews security ahead of I-Day celebration

SRINAGAR, Aug 5: Dilbag Singh, the Director General of Police (DGP), chaired a high-level meeting here at the Police Headquarters to oversee the security preparations ahead of the upcoming Independence Day festivities in the region.
The meeting was attended by top officials, including R R Swain, Special DGP of CID, Nalin Prabhat, ADG of CRPF, SJM Gillani, ADGP of Armed Police, M K Sinha, ADGP of Headquarters/Coordination at PHQ, and Ajay Kumar Yadav, IG of CRPF Srinagar Sector, among others. ADGP Mukesh Singh from Jammu Zone participated via video conferencing.
At the outset of the meeting, DGP Dilbag Singh paid respects to the three Army soldiers who lost their lives in an encounter in Kulgam the previous day, observing two minutes of silence.
Dilbag Singh emphasized the significance of sacrifices made to uphold the nation’s sovereignty and people’s safety. He applauded the dedication of the officers and personnel on the ground, who contribute to the country’s security.
Turning to the preparations for Independence Day functions, the DGP called for comprehensive reports on security, traffic arrangements, and deployment strategies across twin capital cities, district headquarters, and other locations.
He instructed that all necessary arrangements must be finalized well in advance. The meeting delved into potential challenges and strategies to counter them, particularly focusing on updating databases related to anti-national elements and over-ground workers.
The DGP stressed heightened vigilance and precautionary measures, given the continued attempts by disruptive forces in Jammu and Kashmir. He underscored the importance of implementing joint mechanisms devised at various levels to maintain peace and security.
The top cop also emphasized the need for efficient traffic management during the Independence Day celebrations, highlighting the identification of parking areas to minimize inconvenience to participants in Srinagar and Jammu.
Senior officials representing different units and agencies provided insights into the steps being taken to ensure a smooth and secure Independence Day celebration. They briefed the DGP on security scenarios, preventive measures, and overall preparedness within their respective jurisdictions.
