SAMBA, Aug 5: A live mortar shell was recovered from Basantar River in Nud Village here today.

As per available information, some locals noticed a mortar shell in the river and informed the police.
Accordingly, SHO Samba Rajeshwar Singh reached at the spot and took the shell into his possession.
The 81 mm mortar shell, found for the first time in the area, was later neutralised by the bomb disposal squad. Since Nud is a hilly area and the possibility of finding a shell from this village was limited, Police have taken cognisance of the matter and started further investigation.
