RAJOURI, Aug 6: The old and dilapidated building of Tehsil Complex Thannamandi which partially collapsed without any loss of life a few days ago, is posing threat to the life of people.
Official sources said that this building was constructed in 1983 and in 2018, the building was declared unsafe, which collapsed few days ago due to heavy rains. The locals said that the building of the Tehsil Complex has been lying in decay for many years and there is dire need of construction of building as at presently, the Revenue Complex functioning from a rented building.
Due to non-availability of Sub Divisional Complex about ten Government offices of Thannamandi are performing their normal functioning in different private buildings. Sources said that this building was declared unusable in 2018, after which the foundation stone of this building was laid by the then District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Mohammed Aijaz Asad on November 14, 2019, but the reconstruction work not yet started.
They further disclosed that in 2014, Thannamandi was given the status of Sub Division and SDM was posted in Thannamandi, but since 2014 till date, the offices of Sub Division level officers have not been opened in Thannamandi.
The local people said that several Government offices in Thannamandi are running in private buildings for which they are paying rent annually. They further added that even if the rent of two or three years is collected, then a good building can be raised to bring relief to the people.
Moreover, the partially collapsed building posing great threat to life and property of locals and those who pass nearby this building as the remaining portion may collapsed any time. Locals urged the District Administration Rajouri to look into the matter and direct concerned agency to demolish the building completely and start construction work of new building so that public do not suffer any more.
