Srinagar, Aug 6: Security forces today foiled an infiltration bid when they killed a militant near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district.

An official said that Army and Kupwara police in a joint operation foiled an infiltration bid by neutralizing a militant on LoC in Amrohi area of Tangdhar sector.
The official said that the security forces got input about the possible infiltration in Amrohi and launched an operation in which they eliminated the infiltrator.
Identity and affiliation of the militant were not yet established.
He said that one AK rifle, six pistols and ammunition were recovered from the site of the encounter besides some incriminating material.
In the meantime, Army in a statement said that they recovered a huge quantity of war-like stores from an intruder killed by it in a joint operation with police in Kupwara district.
“A joint operation by Indian Army and J&K Police was launched on 6th August 2023 in general area of Amrohi village in Tangdhar sector, Kupwara based on credible infiltration inputs received from intelligence agencies”, read a statement.
The synergistic efforts and timely action of alert security forces, as per the statement, successfully foiled the infiltration bid in the early morning hours, resulting in neutralisation of one militant and recovery of huge quantity of war like stores like one rifle, six pistols and Pakistan currency notes.
“The operation has once again established the evil nexus of militant organisations and their associates in Pakistan who are trying to disrupt peace and tranquility in the Valley”, the statement said.
“Indian Army along with other security agencies are determined to defeat the nefarious design of the adversaries and are always combat ready to ensure safety and security of citizens in Kashmir”, it added.
