JAMMU, Aug 7: Jammu’s Panjvaktra Mahadev Mandir is witnessing a historic celebration – the Sawan Mahotsav. This event marks the first-ever fervent celebration of its kind in both the temple and the city.
A statement said that the Mahotsav features bhajan Sandhyas (musical devotional sessions) held every Monday throughout the Sawan and Adhik Sawan months.
Renowned classical singers, both national and international, are enchanting devotees with melodious bhajans dedicated to Lord Mahadev.
This Monday, the Mahotsav achieved a special milestone with a captivating Kathak performance by Dr Priya Dutta’s young artists from Nirtyanjali. Dr Dutta, a respected Kathak dancer and the Head of the Dance Department (IMFA) at the University of Jammu, also serves as Honorary Director of Nrityanjali.
The spiritual ambiance, enhanced by Vidyarthis from SMVD Gurukul and classical singer Raj Kumar Behrupia, was elevated further by Dr Priya Dutta and her skilled young disciples. Their Kathak performance of Ganesh Vandna left devotees entranced, incorporating rhythmic footwork, gestures, expressions, and eye movements.
As the performances progressed, the choreography by Dr Dutta reached its peak with a mesmerizing solo rendition of Rudrashtakam by Kritika Dutt. The interplay between dancers and accompanists, including Raj Kumar Behrupia on vocals, Guru Parshotam Kumar on Pakhawaj, S Amarjeet Singh on violin, Rakesh Anand on flute, and Vijay on tabla, elevated the spiritual experience.
This event revives the age-old tradition of classical music and dance performances in ancient temples, dating back to pre-Vedic times. The revival of this tradition is guided by the blessings of Punchbakhtar Mahadev in Jammu.
The Sawan Mahotsav at Panjvaktra Mahadev Mandir signifies a historic moment for Jammu, blending devotion, artistry, and tradition in a harmonious fusion that resonates deeply.
