JAMMU, Aug 8: Senior BJP leader and former Minister, Bali Bhagat has launched a scathing attack against PDP president and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti for accusing BJP of doing nothing for Jammu.
In a statement issued here today, the former Minister emphatically stated, “It is disheartening to see Valley-based leaders mislead the people of Jammu with baseless accusations. It seems that Mehbooba Mufti lacks a true understanding of the term ‘discrimination’.”
He asserted that the successive regimes headed by NC, PDP and Congress did nothing for the welfare people of Jammu and Ladakh regions except giving hollow sermons. He highlighted the mistreatment of PoJK refugees, Gorkhas, Civic Safai Karamcharis and others who had lived in Jammu & Kashmir for over 70 years without receiving basic amenities, let alone their rights.
Bhagat highlighted significant historical grievances, such as the closure of the Government Ayurvedic Medical College in Jammu for 42 years, a decision made during the seventies under Sheikh Abdullah’s leadership. Likewise, he drew attention to the establishment of the Bone & Joint Hospital Barzulla in 1972, an essential facility that was absent in Jammu.
The former Minister highlighted establishment of an additional New Emergency Block at GMC Jammu with 100 bedded facilities, 275 bedded “New Maternity Block at SMGS Hospital Jammu, establishment of 50 bedded Ayush Hospitals in Kishtwar, creation of a State Cancer Institute valued at 120 crore in Jammu, sanctioning of two BSc Nursing colleges in Jammu and Kishtwar, establishment of two AIIMS at Vijaypur-Jammu, opening of four new Medical Colleges in Jammu and one sanctioned for Leh, etc.
Closing his statement with a pertinent question, Bhagat challenged Mehbooba Mufti to explain why the successive regimes had discriminated and failed to accomplish such transformative progress over the last 70 years of their rule in Jammu.
Bhagat warned Valley-based leaders, urging them to cease deceiving the people of J&K, particularly those in Jammu. “The people are well aware of how Valley-based parties have prioritized Kashmir’s development while neglecting Jammu.”
