Father-son among 3 held in fake accident, cheating case

DODA, Aug 8: A man and his son were among three persons arrested by Police here today for staging a fake accident case and cheating a trader of Jammu.
The arrested persons were Shamim Ahmed and his father Bashir Ahmed, son of Ghulam Nabi, both resident of Droundi, Bhalla while the third arrested person was Ashiq Ali, son of Khair Din, resident of Trown Bhalla, Doda.
On July 29, 2023 cops at Police Station Thathri got information that a vehicle of Jaunga made bearing registration number JK02CH-5504 while on way to Kishtwar plunged into river Chenab near Shibnote, Prem Nagar.
Cops rushed to the spot and found that driver of the vehicle had managed to save himself and had escaped.
The vehicle was lying in the river.
On preliminary enquiry it was found that the vehicle was used for carrying goods like food items, cosmetics, garments etc
Accordingly, a case in FIR no. 75/2023 under relevant sections of IPC was registered at Police Station Thathri and investigation started.
During investigation cops found a mobile phone from the spot.
Technical analysis of the phone revealed some suspicion about movement of the driver of the vehicle. The phone was registered in the name of one Ashiq Ali of Trown, Bhalla, Doda. On enquiry he revealed that the mobile number was registered in his name but was being used by his brother-in-law Shamim Ahmed who was driving the vehicle at the time of accident.
On questioning the driver confessed that he was driver of the vehicle which belongs to one Sunil Kumar, son of Bansi Lal, resident of Nai Basti, Jammu and was tasked to transport goods from Jammu for delivery in Kishtwar.
He further revealed that he with criminal intention and in connivance with his associates Ashiq Ali and Bashir Ahmed, made plan and unloaded some goods from the vehicle and dumped them at different places in Trown, Pranoo area and thereafter moved towards Kishtwar road and deliberately threw the vehicle in Chenab to deceive his employer so that they could make money by selling stolen goods.
The driver also revealed that in order to make the site of accident look like a real accident site, he threw some goods into Chenab but majority of the material was dumped at other places.
On disclosure of the accused driver, Police raided different places and recovered goods worth approx Rs. 11 lakh dumped by the driver and his associates.
More recoveries are expected and investigation of the case was going on.
The investigation and recovery was made by police team led by Inspector Amrit Katoch, SHO Thathri and PSI Sumunder Sher Khan, IC PP Prem Nagar under the supervision of Vaseem Mehmood, SDPO Bhaderwah, Vinod Kumar, ASP Bhaderwah and under the overall supervision of Abdul Qayoom, SSP Doda.
