JAMMU, Dec 22: To lodge protest against alleged anti-working class policies of the State Government, All J&K Pensioners Association Jammu held a protest demonstration under the leadership of Mukand Lal Sharma and Madan Lal Abrol.
The protesters raised slogans against the Government and in support of their long pending demands.
While addressing the gathering, Madan Lal Abrol said that the Association represents 2,20,000 pensioners of the State and give voice to their grievances seeking redressal through civilized dignified and democratic means.
Highlighting the demands, he lamented that the Government enhanced the medical allowance of the Legislature from Rs 300 to 1000 per month but the same was not done in the case of pensioners. The arrears of the Six Pay Commission, due to the pensioners in the month of July, have not been disbursed. The additional quantum of the pension in favour of State pensioners, after attaining the age of 80, 85, 90,100 years and above on the analogy of the Central Government Older Pensioners is still awaited, he added and further said that the due DA since July was not released yet.
He demanded release of 6 percent DA, arrears from Jan 2009 to June 2009 at an earliest and merger of 50 percent DA in the basic pension.
Others who spoke on the occasion, included Pavitar Singh, ex-Session Judge, Subash Rekhi, Mukand Lal Sharma, Raj Kumar Banathia, Dev Raj Gupta, Mohd Shafi, Moti Lal Koul, S Harbans Singh, Yash Pal Senson, Subash Suri, Pavitar Singh, Omkar Nath Sharma, S D Verma and Om Parkash Sharma.
