Bitten by infected dog, ASI dies

RAMBAN, Aug 11: An Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police here today died after he was bitten by a rabies-infected dog three months back when the cop was on duty.
After bitten by the dog, ASI Mohammad Rafiq Naik, posted at Police Station Ramban was diagnosed with rabies infection and was administrated anti-rabies vaccine at District Hospital and was discharged.
On Wednesday he developed some complications and went to District Hospital where he was again diagnosed with rabies infection.
He was referred to All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi.
Sources informed that he was sent back as he was diagnosed with full rabies infection and he succumbed while on way to Jammu today morning.
His body was brought back to his native village Zaradi, Neel, in Sub Division Ramsu of Ramban District for last rites.
Hundreds of people including senior police officers and political leaders participated in his last rites late Friday evening.
In a statement District Police Ramban said that they have lost one of the most dedicated, hardworking and bravest cop Assistant Sub Inspector Mohd Rafiq who was bitten by a rabies infected dog.
“In these tough times, our police officer and his family will always be in our thoughts and prayers. He is going to live forever in our memories,” Police Department stated in the handout.
