KATHUA, Aug 12: Two days Zonal Review cum Annual Action Plan workshop on National Innovations on Climate Reslient Agriculture (NICRA) – Technology Demonstration Component, began here today.
A total of 17 KVKs from three states; Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Uttaranchal and two Union Territories; J&K and Ladakh are participating in this workshop to discuss the progress for 2022-23 and formulating the action plan for 2023-24.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Rajbir Singh, Assistant Director General (ICAR-NRM) in the presence of Dr V K Singh, Director, ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad; Dr J V N S Prasad, Principal Scientist & PI, NICRA-TDC, ICAR-CRIDA, Hyderabad; Dr Parvender Sheoran, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone – I, Ludhiana; Dr S K Gupta, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu; Dr Dileep Kachroo, Chairman, ZMC and Dr Simerjeet Kaur, Member, ZMC.
While interacting with the participants, Dr Rajbir Singh emphasised the need of working in convergence mode with line departments. He discussed the importance of replicating and demonstrating climate change agriculture technologies at national and global level.
Dr V K Singh briefed about the achievements of NICRA project at national level. He also emphasised upon the performance based evaluation of NICRA centres for regulated funding.
Dr Parvender Sheoran, Director, ICAR-ATARI, discussed the mandates of NICRA project and suggested scientists to generate evidence based outputs and correlate these with weather parameters for assessing the overall impact of demonstrated technologies.
Dr S K Gupta, Director Extension, SKUAST-Jammu, elaborated the importance and role of NICRA project under the current climate change scenario. Dr Dileep Kachroo highlighted the principles of managing climate change through the introduction of new agricultural technologies under NICRA.
Earlier, Dr Vishal Mahajan, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Kathua presented welcome address.
The inaugural session was followed by the five technical sessions in which all the participatory scientists presented KVK wise progress report and deliberated upon to prepare annual action plans. The second day of the workshop will include the field visit by the monitoring team and the participants to NICRA village of Saida and Sohal of Kathua district wherein a farmer’s scientist interaction will also be held.
