Srinagar, Aug 13: A fire today gutted a residential house and a cowshed in Chattergul, located in the Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire originated in the home of Mir Mohd Chara and rapidly spread, consuming the entire residential structure.
“The adjacent cowshed was also caught in the blaze, adding to the extent of the loss,” they said.
In an immediate response to the emergency, rescue operations were swiftly launched by the authorities, with revenue teams rushing to the scene to assess the full scope of the damage.
The local police also arrived promptly to initiate further investigations into the incident and reported one injury as a direct result of the fire.
However, the aftermath of the fire was not limited to physical damage alone, as the residents voiced their concerns and frustrations with the administration over the lack of a nearby fire station.
Locals have long been demanding a fire tender specifically allocated for the Chattergul area, a concern that they said has been raised during various “Back to Village” programs. “Unfortunately, despite these appeals, no concrete action has been taken to address this critical need,” locals said.
