Man posing as police officer nabbed

SRINAGAR, Aug 14: Police today apprehended a man who was impersonating a police officer in the Kunzer area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

The accused was identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Wani, son of Ghulam Mohammad Wani and a resident of Barzulla Dhobivan (Tehsil Karhama), according to the police. He was taken into custody based on a written complaint filed against him.
“The investigation confirmed that the accused had been operating under false pretences, presenting himself as both a Sub-Inspector and a Deputy SP, with the intention to deceive unsuspecting individuals,” stated the police.
Through this deceptive scheme, police said, the accused managed to fraudulently extract Rs 90,000 from the complainant. “During the investigation, Kunzer Police was able to recover and seize Rs 40,000 of the ill-gotten funds, which were earned through various fraudulent activities.”
Police said that a case was registered in this regard under FIR Number 83/2023, invoking Sections 419 and 420 of the IPC, at Police Station Kunzer and further investigation was underway.
