ADGP Kmr, 2 DIGs among 55 policemen from J&K get PMG on I-Day

80 personnel awarded JKPMG, JKPMMS

JKP bags highest PMGs, second highest PMMS in country

JAMMU, Aug 14: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, two Deputy Inspector Generals of Police ranked officers, and as many Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) were among the 55 police officers from J&K Police who have been awarded Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) on the occasion of Independence Day.
While one police officer has been awarded the President’s Police Medal (PPM) for Distinguished Service, Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PPMS) has been awarded to 20 Police personnel including eight SSPs from the Union Territory. No police personnel from the 30 States and UTs of the country got the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry.
Further, 80 police personnel from the Union Territory have also been honoured with the Jammu and Kashmir Police Medal for Gallantry (JKPMG) and Jammu and Kashmir Police Medal for Meritorious Service (JKPMMS).
As per Ministry of Home Affairs, ADGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar has been honoured with Second Bar to PMG, DIG Central Kashmir Range (CKR) Sujit Kumar with Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), and DIG South Kashmir, Abdul Jabbar with Ist Bar to PMG.
Additionally, AIG (CIV), Police Headquarters, J&K, Dr G V Sundeep Chakravarthy has been awarded the 4th Bar to PMG, Commandant IR-5th Battalion, Ghulam Jeelani Wani has been awarded the 3rd Bar to PMG, SP Arif Amin Shah (3rd Bar to PMG), SP Mohammad Anwar-ul-Haq (Ist Bar to PMG), SP Syed-Al-Tahir-Gilani (PMG), and SP Sajjad Ahmed Shah (4th Bar to PMG).
DySP Jaswant Singh has been awarded PMG, DySP Tanweer Ahmed Dar (3rd Bar to PMG), DySP Mohan Lal (2nd Bar to PMG), DySP Mubashir Rasool (2nd Bar to PMG), DySP Saqib Ghani (Ist Bar to PMG) and DySP Gulam Hassan Sheikh (Ist Bar to PMG).

With 55 police medals, J&K Police remained on top of the table among the recipients of Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG) followed by Maharashtra Police with 33 medals, CRPF (27) medals and Chhattisgarh Police (24) medals.
The only President’s Police Medal (PPM) for Distinguished Service awardee from J&K is Mohammad Aftab Mir, SSP.
Police Medals for Meritorious Service (PMMS) were awarded to 20 personnel from Jammu and Kashmir Police. Among the recipients of the prestigious awards are Tahir Sajjad Bhat, AIG (Personnel), Altaf Ahmad Shah, SSP; Girdhari Lal, SSP; Rakesh Kumar, SSP; Ravinder Pal Singh Dutt, SSP; Sanjay Singh Rana, SSP; Shafkat Hussain Batt, SSP and Shivdeep Singh Jamwal, SSP.
The other recipients of the PMMS are Dedar Singh, DySP; Mohammad Ayoub Rather, DySP; Muzamil Ahmad Bhat, Inspector; Nisar Ahmad Shah, Inspector; Piaray Lal Pandit, Inspector; Setinder Vir Singh, Inspector; Ajit Dhar, ASI; Ishrat Jan, SI; Mohammad Ishtiyaq Gojar, SI; Zaffar Ali Khan, SI; Riyaz Ahmad Shah, Inspector, and Vivek Kalsotra, Inspector.
With 20 medals each, both J&K Police and West Bengal Police remained at number 2 in the list of the recipient State/UT Police of the PMMS after the Maharashtra Police with highest 40 medals.
Meanwhile, as per the J&K UT Administration, 74 police personnel have been honoured with Jammu and Kashmir Police Medal for Gallantry (JKPMG) and 6 with Jammu and Kashmir Police Medal for Meritorious Service (JKPMMS).
Among those who have been honoured with JKPMMS medals are three DIGs-Dr Sunil Gupta, Nisha Nathyal, and Javed Iqbal Matoo. The other recipients are SSP Arun Gupta, Additional SP Mohammad Afzal Bhat, and Head Constable Bharat Bhushan.
