Changing NMML to PMML

JAMMU, Aug 17: Former Union Minister, Dr. Karan Singh has expressed concern over the change of name of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society (NMML) to Prime Minister’s Museum and Library Society (PMML).
In a handout Dr. Singh stated that before he was dropped from the Executive Council of NMML, he had made a suggestion that the NMML should be allowed to continue because it was already well established as an institution of national and international reputation.
He stated that the project of making a new museum for all subsequent PMs is to be welcomed because all of them deserve to be remembered, and he personally knew each one of them.
For this project he had suggested a separate society to be formed.
“This could have been done quite easily and would have allowed the premier institution to continue undisturbed,” Dr. Singh maintained adding: “While I was assured that the Teen Murti House Museum itself will not be disturbed in any way and in fact will be updated and improved, it is still a matter of regret that my suggestion was not accepted.”
He further said that he has another suggestion that although the name of the overall complex has been changed to PMML, there is no reason why the original building should not continue to be called the Jawaharlal Nehru Museum and Library, because that is exactly what it is.
“It is a matter for some satisfaction that all those who visit the new museum will first have to pass through this building and absorb the history of first PM who has had the longest tenure of any PM so far. The name of that building, therefore, need not be changed even though the NMML society has been subsumed by the PMML,” Dr. Karan Singh continued.
