JAMMU, Aug 23: J&K BJP President Ravinder Raina today filed suit for damages up to the tune of Rs 5 crore against former MLC Surinder Kumar Choudhary for leveling baseless and defamatory allegations and Principal District Judge Jammu Sanjay Parihar has issued notice to Surinder Kumar Choudhary.
In the suit, it has been submitted that Ravinder Raina has earned his reputation as a human rights activist, social worker and dedicated himself towards ameliorating the cause of public including working for victims of terrorism across J&K.
By his hard work and honesty, the plaintiff has emerged as a political leader with an unimpeachable reputation and a vast following across all segments of society within and outside J&K. The defendant-Surinder Choudhary had unsuccessfully contested against the plaintiff in 2014 Assembly polls. Although, victory and defeat is part and parcel of a democratic system, but the defendant could not, possibly, digest defeat and was always in search of opportunities to defame and malign the image of the plaintiff and his party.
The defendant quit Peoples Democratic Party in the year 2022 and approached BJP for joining by publicly admitting his respect for BJP’s commitment towards nation-building. After approval from central party high command, he joined BJP in presence of senior party leaders at Jammu. However, his insatiable political and personal ambitions, prodded him to join National Conference on 11th July 2023 by quitting the BJP.
The defendant put up a tweet on 11.07.2023 from his official Twitter-handle ‘Surinderch55’ and a past on his Facebook wall too. Consciously insensitive to the primordial necessity of decency, restraint and limitations imposed by law, defendant continued unabatedly with defamatory tweets, social media posts and interviews to various portals repeating the same defamatory content against the plaintiff.
