The directions were passed after the Chief Manager of the Indian Railways brought it to the notice of the ADG that the ticketless train travel including by the cops in Kashmir division has been on rise.
Kumar in an advisory issued here said that the ticketless train travel in Kashmir train services not only undermines the integrity of the public transport system but also leads to substantial loss to the Railway exchequer.
“It has been reported that there are also instances of ticketless travel including individuals from the Police Department. The behavior of such police personnel has not only been non-compliant with established norms but also disrespect for legal requisites that govern the public transport system. Such actions set an undesirable precedence and regretfully serve as an encouragement for other passengers to follow suit thereby, perpetuating the problem of ticketless travel.
The ADG has issued directions that Police personnel should desist from ticketless travel on Kashmir train. He warned action against the ticketless police personnel under law.
