The LG of Ladakh announced that the salaries of teachers attached to various offices instead of fulfilling their teaching responsibilities would be halted. He has rightly pointed out that the extensive attachment of teachers to different offices while students in remote and far-flung areas were facing hardships is a matter of concern, and action will be taken on this account. Ladakh is a vast region with a widely scattered population, and its harsh climatic conditions can make it challenging for students to travel long distances for education. Recognising this, the government has established schools in remote hamlets to ensure maximum access to education. Despite the relatively small population, there is a commitment to provide as many schools as possible. However, it has come to the attention of LG that a significant number of teachers have chosen to attach themselves to CEOs, ZEO offices, or other institutions of their choice rather than fulfilling their primary roles in schools. This situation has resulted in teachers drawing salaries without fulfilling their teaching duties, leading to a detriment to the education of the students.
The next crucial step for the administration should involve a thorough investigation into the reasons behind granting permission for these attachments. If the reasons assigned for these attachments are not genuine, action shall also be taken against the CEOs and ZEOs who approved them. Government jobs are transferable, yet some employees are seeking to serve only in their preferred areas, which is not in line with Government working rules and regulations.
