SRINAGAR, Aug 26: Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages organized literary programme ‘Meet the Eminent’ under the guidance of Bharat Singh, Secretary JKAACL at Seminar Hall, Academy Office, Lal Mandi, here today.
The programme was based on the life and literary work of Dr Mohan Singh Shant, an eminent Punjabi poet. Ajit Singh Mastana, Dr Mohan Singh Shant, Mufti Shafeeq- Ur- Rehman (Chief Editor, Arabic) and Popinder Singh Paras (Editor, Sheeraza Punjabi) were present in the presidium. Galaxy of Punjabi speaking people and writers fraternity was also present in the programme.
Dr Shant is MBBS and retired as Professor from Government Medical College, Srinagar. He has contributed three poetry books to the Punjabi literary world. These books are published under the titles ‘Badlay Mausam Beetay Pal’, ‘Ambran De Ohley’ and ‘Hanjhu Haase’.
Ajit Singh Mastana noted Punjabi writer and Rattan Singh Kanwal presented their papers on the life and literary contribution of Dr Mohan Singh Shant. During the programme, Dr Shant shared his experiences with Punjabi readers/writers and well known intellectuals. He also recited pieces of his poetry on the occasion.
In his welcome address, Shafeeq- Ur- Rehman said that Academy has been organizing various literary programmes like ‘Meet the Eminent’ in which senior most writers from every regional language is invited in this series to share his literary aspects and life skills.
Popinder Singh Paras also highlighted the contribution of Dr Shant in the field of Punjabi poetry. He elaborated that Academy also plans to organize Punjabi programmes at far flung areas of Kashmir Province.
The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Popinder Singh Paras who extended vote of thanks also.
