Dhaka, Aug 27 : Bangladesh Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has said that the UK wants a participatory election in the country.
He said this after a meeting with British High Commissioner Sarah Cook at Agargaon election building in the capital on Sunday.
CEC Kazi Habibul Awal said that the UK wants to see a participatory election in Bangladesh.
“We also want elections to be free and participatory. At the same time, the British High Commissioner also wanted to know that journalists can work freely,” he said.
British High Commissioner Sarah Cook said that the United Kingdom wants to see the upcoming twelfth parliamentary elections in Bangladesh fair and peaceful. In the meeting with the CEC, several issues including observers, role of media and use of technology in the upcoming elections were fruitfully discussed.
Earlier, the Chief Election Commissioner sat in a meeting with British High Commissioner Sarah Cook at his office in the election building at around 11:00 am.
Diplomats of various countries including the European Union, Japan, and the United States have met with the Chief Election Commissioner before the 12th National Parliament elections. They also want to see free, fair, impartial and participatory elections.
