Twenty railways stations to be redeveloped for boosting economic activity in Jharkhand

Kolkata, Aug 27 : Initially 20 railway stations are slated to be redeveloped to boost tourist traffic and economic activities in picturesque Jharkhand with a budgetary provision of Rs 5271 crores under the Amrit Bharat Station, a dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Look East policy, South Eastern Railway sources said.

The redevelopment envisages multi-pronged modern facilities like improvement of infrastructures of the stations with state-of-art facilities, and especially aiming to boost the economy of the local population by providing world-class amenities and facilities for setting up “One Station O¬ne Product (OSOP) stalls for indigenous products to the domestic as well as for the foreign customers.

Moreover, to give a major thrust for the development of Railway infrastructure in Jharkhand, there has been a budget allocation of Rs. 5271 crores in 2023-24 which is 1053 percent more than the average budget allocation during 2009-14, sources added.

Master Plans are being prepared for the development of these stations as ‘City Centres’, with proper integration of both sides of the city. This integrated approach is driven by the holistic vision of the overall urban development of the city, centered around the railway station.

The redevelopment will provide modern passenger amenities along with ensuring well-designed traffic circulation, inter-modal integration and signage for the guidance of passengers. The design of the station buildings will be inspired by local culture, heritage and architecture, the SER said.
