RAMBAN, Aug 28: Police here today arrested a narcotics smuggler and recovered over 24 kg poppy straw from him.
During a routine checking cops of Police Station Batote led by Inspector Rajesh Khajuria, SHO Batote intercepted a truck bearing registration number JK 02BJ/4259 which was on its way from Srinagar to Udhampur.
During checking, cops recovered 24 kg and 480 gm poppy from the vehicle and arrested the truck driver Kapil Singh, son of Kaka Ram Singh, resident of Proa Jagir, Ramnagar, District Udhampur.
In this regard, a case in FIR number 124/2023 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Batote and investigation started.
The arrest and recovery was made under the supervision of Dy. SP Hqrs Ramban, Om Parkash; Additional SP Ramban, Gourav Mahajan and under the overall supervision of SSP Ramban, Mohita Sharma.
