JAMMU, Dec 26: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Rajesh Kumar said today that there was “no case of humiliation and harassment” of any of the Ranji cricket players during search of their hotel on the intervening night of December 24 and 25.
“Searches were conducted in the hotel as per rules. Searches were carried out in most parts of the city. All the hotel and public places were searched,” he told reporters
“There is no case of humiliation and harassment to any one the players,” he said, adding that the Ranji team was not targeted “specifically”.
Asked about the allegation that the players were grilled by the police for over one and a half hours and their identity cards checked, Mr Kumar said: “they (police personnel) verified their (players’) antecedents. They checked their cards and found everything OK and immediately after that they departed from the hotel.”
As reported today, police had conducted searches in several hotels of the City to tracer Hizbul Mujahideen `operational chief’ for Sopore Abdul Qayoom Asgar alias Qayoom Najar, who was reported to have sneaked into Jammu. The militant, however, remained untraced.
