KISHTWAR, Aug 31: District Administration Kishtwar has banned the unauthorized trade of Saffron Seeds (Corms) outside the District.
In this regard a circular was issued by ADDC Kishtwar, Sham Lal by the order of District Development Commissioner, Kishtwar, which stated that it has come to the notice of ADDC Kishtwar through Chief Agriculture Officer, Kishtwar that some agencies hailing from outside the District are purchasing Saffron Seed (Corms) from saffron growers of Kishtwar and offering them rates more than approved by the Department of Agriculture and they were supplying the seeds outside the District.
“Thus draining out the local germ plasm can cause setback to saffron cultivation and area expansion in the district and it will lead to decline in further cultivation of saffron,” the circular maintained adding: “Therefore keeping in view the request of Chief Agriculture Officer, Kishtwar and seriousness of the matter, the unauthorized trade of Saffron Seed (Corms) outside the district is strictly banned.”
“The concerned department shall monitor such unauthorized supply of Saffron Seeds outside the district and bring such incidents into the notice of district administration for legal action against the culprits,” the circular continued.
