Transporters to go on strike across J&K today

JAMMU, Aug 31: All Jammu and Kashmir Transport Welfare Association (AJKTWA) today declared that all the transporters will go on strike tomorrow across Jammu and Kashmir, demanding lifting of Sarore Toll Plaza.
Addressing a press conference here today, chairman of the AJKTWA, Ajit Singh said that earlier, the Association had declared to go on strike on August 31 (Thursday) but many requests from different districts came to the Association that since the Rakshabandan falls on Wednesday and Thursday, therefore, the programme of strike on Thursday be deferred.
Therefore, in view of the festival and in the interest of general public, Sept 31 ‘Chakka Jam’ strike programme was deferred, he added.
Ajit Singh disclosed that now, the AJKTWA has decided to go on strike on Friday. All the Associations including Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries, High Court Bar Association Association, Yuva Rajput Sabha and all other social, youth and political organisations will come on one platform and launch their collective fight against Sarore Toll Plaza.
In this regard, all the transporters and activists of various organizations are requested to assemble at Bhagwati Nagar Chowk in Jammu at 9 am on Friday and launch massive protest march against Sarore Toll Plaza. He said next programme/course of action will be decided on Friday evening after sitting together and the decision will be declared at the press conference tomorrow, Ajit Singh added.
The AJKTWA chairman declared that all the public transport vehicles including trucks, mini-trucks/ load carriers, tankers, buses, minibuses/matadors, tempo travelers, Tata Sumos, taxis, autorikshaws etc shall remain off the road tomorrow from Lakhanpur in Jammu to Uri in Kashmir. Vijay Singh Chib, president AJKTWA also spoke on the occasion. All the heads of various Bus/Truck/ Minibus/Taxi/Auto Unions were also present during the conference.
