JAMMU, Aug 31: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today announced upgradation of Kargil-Zanskar Intermediate Lane on National Highway 301 in the Union Territory of Ladakh which will go a long way in improved connectivity on the mountainous areas.
Gadkari made this announcement through a tweet on X, formerly twitter.
Gadkari said that the total length of the project is 31.14 kilometers and it falls under Package-6.
“Main aim of this effort is to boost economic growth in the area by providing a reliable and accessible link for both commuters and the movement of goods in the interior zones, the Union Minister said.
He said the upgraded highway will ensure year-round accessibility, which will greatly benefit the local economy and the inhabitants of the region.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this ambitious project has been launched to achieve swift, hassle-free, and environmentally conscious mobility in the Ladakh region,” the Minister for Road Transport and Highways said.
As per the officials, the MORTH decision was aimed at providing improved and round-the-clock road connectivity to the people travelling between Kargil and Zanskar, which falls in Kargil district in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
Once completed, the project will lead to enhanced round-the-clock connectivity between two areas of Ladakh.
The Union Minister also tweeted photographs of the work going on at Kargil-Zanskar Intermediate Lane on National Highway 301.
The Central Government has taken up series of infrastructure development projects in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh which was till August 5, 2019 part of undivided State of J&K.
Infrastructure including road, bridges and tunnels are also being constructed close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China in Ladakh, Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) with Pakistan in J&K and Ladakh.
Besides helping the local people living along LAC, LoC and IB, the infrastructure development projects are also assisting troops a lot especially in their movement along the border areas.
